Archbishop’s Palace of Lima

The palace is the residence of the Archbishop of Lima and headquarters of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Lima. The current palace was opened in 1924. Only the finest materials were used in its construction, particularly the intricate cedar balconies set against the ornamental granite facade. The palace is also a museum featuring artistic and cultural artifacts; guided tours are complimentary with the admission fee.

The second floor, which contains furniture and paintings from various eras, is where the Archbishop carries out his duties. What’s nearby?

There are several other historically significant buildings around the Plaza de Armas. One of the most popular attractions in Lima is San Francisco Monastery, particularly for its haunting catacombs full of thousands of bones piled together. Also worth a look is the Government Palace, not just for its current political interest, but also for the dark history of Fransicso Pizarro, a prime conquistador of Peru.
