Over the course of 13 days you will enjoy the French and Swiss Alps, increase your overall health, and expand your brain power.

Course Content

  • Altitude illness
  • Hypothermia/frostbite
  • Avalanche/snow emergencies
  • Wilderness trauma (with a winter/climbing slant – climbing falls, falls though ice, skiing accidents)
  • Snow shelters and winter survival skills
  • Water detoxification and traveler’s diarrhea
  • Designing a wilderness medical kit
  • Evacuations – who, when, & how
  • Treating locals while abroad and international ethics

Hillary R. Irons, MD, PhD

Fellow in wilderness medicine in the Massachusetts General Hospital Department of Emergency Medicine. She is also an instructor of surgery at Harvard School of Medicine.
